Consumer Health AI: OpenAI and Anthropic Announcements

OpenAI and Anthropic announced consumer-facing health products intended to provide personalized health guidance using connected medical record data. Both companies have stated they will not use user health conversations or connected health data to train their models.

OpenAI: ChatGPT Health (announced January 7, 2026)

  • Uses Model Context Protocol (MCP) to retrieve only the record elements needed for a given query
  • Available to Claude Pro and Max subscribers
  • Anthropic has stated it will not use health data for model training
  • Integration noted with Function Health, Apple Health, and Android Health Connect
